While walking to UAS today, Connor and Rowan took a few minutes to investigate the beach by Kettleson Library. They took particular note of the ice that had accumulated at the high tide line.

While walking through town on my way to UAS, I was inspired to take a series of tree silhouette photos. It was interesting to see how distinct they looked, even in silhouette. Of course the colorful sky as a backdrop didn’t hurt.
Setting Sun
I caught the sun dropping below the horizon hoping for a green flash, but atmospheric conditions were evidently not conducive.
Gold Lining
The saying goes that every cloud has a silver lining, but it seemed closer to gold as the sun was setting near these clouds.
Walk through Totem Park

Birds and Bryophyte
The kids and I walked around town today to see if we could pick up any birds that were missed on the Christmas Bird Count yesterday. We were able to add three to the list, Lesser Scaup, Herring Gull, and Hermit Thrush. We had hoped to find Bohemian Waxwings, which we had seen as recently as last Tuesday (two days before count week started), but were not successful in that regard.
While walking around the Baranof Street Cemetery, I noticed a patch of moss I had photographed a couple of years ago, but this time it had sporophytes, so I took pictures and made a small collection with hopes of getting it identified.
