Western Wood Pewee

Filed under: birds — matt goff @ 9:53 am

Sunday saw the first documented sighting of a Western Wood Pewee in the Sitka area. The only prior record was a sight report from Chichagof Island in the late summer. Victoria Vosburg noticed it flycatching outside her window, and was able to watch it for over an hour. She was able to get this photograph of the bird.

A little later, I was able to stop by for a look, and although it had disappeared for a time, it did show up and I was able to get a couple of pictures of it as well.
