Late Winter Saturday Sun Day

Mostly sunny with temperatures up to 40F. Light (but chilly) winds where I was.

On a drive out the road, it looked windy out of Bear Cove, but Sawmill Cove and the entrance to Silver Bay was calmer. not so much. The road still had ice and snow in places.

I walked around Japonski Island with Kitty. The sun felt warm, and fortunately the breeze was light, so it didn’t feel too cold.

At SEARHC there were 10 or so robins. I hadn’t seen many this year, but in the last week or so there have been more. It’s a bit too early for the spring migrants, so I suspect these ones may have come from further north. Either that, or they’ve been around town in other neighborhoods, and have just moved to places I’ve become more of aware of them.

The Pied-billed Grebe was back at Crescent Harbor today.

It was reported there this morning and still there when I went to look later in the afternoon.

When I first saw it from the seawalk, it had a large shrimp. I didn’t see if it managed to eat it, only that it no longer was wrestling with it by the time I got down to the harbor for a better angle and lighting.

I went out for sunset. The sun is definitely setting behind Kruzof from the bridge (which I thought, but it was good to confirm). A clouds over Mt. Edgecumbe made me think there might be some nice color. I went out to Sea Mart to watch.
