Oysterleaf and Shepherd’s Purse

As far as I know, Oysterleaf (Mertensia maritima) only grows in one location along the road system (where I suspect it was probably initially a transplant). I stopped to photograph it blooming and also got pictures of Shepherd’s Purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) growing along the roadside.

Gallery: 20100613 Oysterleaf (Mertensia maritima)

Oysterleaf (Mertensia maritima) – present throughout much of southeast, but seems to be largely absent near Sitka. This plant was growing with several others along a private drive that was created by putting an extra layer of gravel on an intertidal flat. I suspect it may have been introduced to that particular location.
