Gray Day with New Migrants

Warm and breezy this morning. Calmer and cooler with rain beginning later in the day.

Temperatures remained unseasonably warm overnight, and was still up at 64F this morning.

I helped out with pitching for the fall Raven Radio membership driving this morning.

By the time I left (after visiting with some folks), clouds had dropped down and rain was falling.

I checked out the channel briefly, then went over to Eagle Way.

A good-sized flock of Surf Scoters and probably even more Harlequin Ducks were out off the river mouth. Reviewing my photos, I saw there were also Greater Scaups (first of fall for me) and American Wigeons in the mix.

Before heading home, I went out and watched for a bit at Sawmill Cove.

Other than some gulls (mostly at the mouth of Sawmill Creek) and a cormorant, I didn’t see much activity.

I decided to do a drive by of Swan Lake, and happened to catch sight of an American Coot. It’s the first of the fall and I think a little on the early side compared to when I’ve usually first noticed them.
