Dipper

When I was at Indian River yesterday, I stopped to watch a dipper sing. It sat on a rock in the middle of the river at the top of a short rapid. After it finished singing, it flew upstream a short distance to an alder tree that had fallen into the river. It would dive into the water and then come back up to perch on one of the partially submerged branches. After watching it for a few minutes, I realized it was eating. It would go into the water to catch its food and then eat it while perched on the branch. It appeared to be catching and eating salmon fry.
