Late Winter Water Birds

The sun was out briefly this morning, but not long after the clouds rolled in. By late morning it had started to rain. Temperatures were warm enough that snow level was only down to around 1500 feet or so.

I had calls this morning and another this afternoon, but did make it out for a drive later. With sunset approaching 6pm, there’s much more daylight to work with than earlier in the year.

Off of Sea Mart I saw a group of White-winged Scoters, the first I had seen in some time (coincidentally, I noticed a similar flock last year on this date). They were too far away for good photos, but one was somewhat closer.

A couple of King Eiders were reported in Juneau mixed in with scoters, so I spent a little more time looking that I might have otherwise.
