Overcast with scattered rain. Temperatures in the 50s. Light to moderate Breeze.
I recently received a note from the past to check out a red huckleberry plant that I had made an observation of back in 2021. What stood out was some variegation. I was curious if it would would still be variegated.
The plant in question grows along the wide part of Mosquito Cove trail. I’ve walked by it who knows how many times in the past 4 years, but didn’t ever make particular note of it. I was curious if I was just overlooking it, if it was gone, or no longer showing variegation.

I did find the plant still there and did have some variegation.. It didn’t stand out as much, though to be fair, I might not have ever noticed it the first time had I been on my own.
My pictures were not great, due in part to the breezy conditions. I may try again on another day for better documentation.
While in the area, I moseyed around documenting plants and listening for birds.
The tide was out and the beach easier to walk than last time I was on the beach here.

It’s interesting to me how a path has worn in even on the rocky beach which is presumably subject to at least some wave action.

I saw a familiar looking Lactarius mushroom growing from moss just inside the forest. It looked like one I think I generally see later in the year. I’m unsure if that’s a mis-remembering on my part, or if it’s out early this year due to all the rain we’ve been having. Alternatively, it could be a different, but simiar lookingi, species which is fruiting due to the wet conditions.
After almost catching up on photojournals in mid-May, I’ve fallen behind on publishing again. I worked on photos today. With the rain and my focus on the ChatGPT explorations, I haven’t been getting many lately, so catching up should not take too long (depending on what activities I get up to in the coming days).
