Japonski Island and Swan Lake

Overcast with rain through much of the day. Temperatures in the 50s.

Yet another day of May rain made it easy to stay inside and work on things.

I did get out this afternoon for a bit. After delivering a couple of boxes out the road, I went by Starrigavan. The tide was up.

I left Kitty’s car at the airport parking lot and walked back to my car parked at Sealing Cove.

Along the walk, I observed some species, both native and introduced, that like those kinds of disturbed habitats.

At Swan Lake I made note of pond lilies blooming.

I did not see many bog buckbean flowers blooming (yet? – they usually bloom fairly early in the summer, so maybe lack of sun has discouraged them from investing the energy to produce flowers).

Insects on Bog Buckbean
Insects (maybe moths?) on one of the few bog buckbean plants that was flowering at Swan Lake in Sitka, Alaska

On one I did see, there seem to be several moths. It was too far out to get a good look at, so I’m not entirely sure they were moths.

I did an experiment with having GPT catch a story from me this evening. I found it easier to engage with than I might have guessed.
