Overcast and breezy. Cloud levels dropped this afternoon and brought with them a steady rain. Temperatures into at least the mid 50s.
I got off to a slow start this morning, but the clouds were high and the rain held off.
Rowan suggested I go out and pick up some lunch. While I was out, I checked the channel and saw the Franklin’s Gull out with a couple dozen other gulls.
Since the mountains were still in view, I decided to go up Verstovia.
Connor came along and agreed to carry some of my stuff. I was curious, so we each weighed ourselves before leaving. Even loaded down, his total weight was about 20 pounds less than mine.
We made decent time up. I forgot to start the track right away, but can at least roughly say that it took about an hour and forty minutes to get to the slope below picnic rock. There we were distracted by a pair of ptarmigan.
I took a few pictures, then went off to seek out the location from which the historical photo was taken.
It took me some time to find it. It ended up being further over than I expected. I was able to line it up pretty close.
The conditions were similar, though today was probably a week or two later than would have been the best match for snow.
Reviewing the photo comparison at home, I realized I was up higher. I likely stood taller holding my camera than the view camera on a tripod would have been.
Clouds in image were similar, but the light on the land was different. The older photo had more shadows and highlights. I think it is probable there it was just thin clouds covering the sun at the time.
I did a more complete write up of comparison and posted it as a separate page.
I felt compelled to make some collections from the rock right by the photo location. I took a few field photos, but haven’t made time to go through the collections yet.

Connor wanted to go to the post office, so once we got back to the trail, we took a quick pace down. It wasn’t bad, but I think harder on my legs. They were definitely feeling it. Took just under 50 minutes to get from where the trail enters the trees to the parking lot.
It had been breezy up top, but coming back down out of the wind, quite humid and relatively warm.
