Spring Approaches, Swans Depart?

Overcast this with partial clearing this afternoon.

Although temperatures hit the low 40s, it felt chilly. However, even through a thin bit of clouds, the sun pushed a bit of warmth which I could feel despite the chill in the air.

Before I got up, I could hear a Song Sparrow singing in my yard. It did not sing long, and it did not sound like a full song. I had the impression it was getting warmed up, or perhaps a young bird finding his voice?

On a stop by Swan Lake, I saw only nine Trumpeter Swans. I checked Starrigavan and did not see any there. I noticed one reported from Totem Park. It’s possible others were there as well. Or perhaps they moved to Thimbleberry Lake. While these are possibilities, I suspect they’ve begun heading north.

Connor told me he saw the Black-billed Magpie yesterday by Jarvis Street. I am not aware of any other recent reports and had begun to wonder if it might have moved on.

I worked a bit more on making iNaturalist observations with photos from last year. I would like to get those wrapped up soon, as spring is on its way.
