Thanksgiving Rain becoming Snow

Rain fell with varying intensity throughout daylight hours. Temperatures dropped enough later in the day for wet snow to prevail, and by late this evening an inch or so had accumulated.

I think yesterday’s warmer temperatures resulted in more insect activity at the porch light than I’ve been seeing many days. Last night several winter craneflies were flying around. This morning two winter moths (Operophtera occidentalis) and a fly were on the wall near the light.

I did not feel inspired to spend too much time outside, but did make brief stops by Swan Lake, Moller Park, and the Channel.

A Double-crested Cormorant perched on the pier at the lake was the first I’ve seen there this year.

I did not see the Hooded Mergansers Connor saw yesterday. It also seems the Redhead has moved on. It’s been several days since I’ve seen it (or any reports of it).

The channel had much less gull activity than I’ve seen recently. Perhaps the processors were closed for Thanksgiving.

I didn’t spend long looking for the shrike. It was very quiet bird-wise overall the few minutes I was walked around.
