Morning Visit to Starrigavan

The day started with mostly clear skies but as the day went on, it was partly to mostly cloudy. There was a pretty good breeze through much of the day, though it calmed this evening.

I went out to Starrigavan for a little while this morning.

Nelson Logging road was closed. It appeared they were installing a railing along beginning stretch where there is a steep-ish drop off between the road and the older road (now foot path) level.

I was hoping to see the Solitary Sandpiper that was reported yesterday, but did not find it.

With no bears apparent in the estuary, I decided to see if I could find any tracks from the bear I saw yesterday evening. I was able to find one forepaw print and also a place where I had seen it scratching. I’m not sure, but it may have been getting silverweed (Argentina anserina) roots.

At the Mosquito Cove trailhead, I was able to get pretty good looks and a few pictures of a Wilson’s Warbler. I could also hear a Pacific-slope Flycatcher (#128) up the hill, the first I’ve heard this year.
