Ring-necked Ducks at Swan Lake

I stepped outside this morning to a thin layer of slush on the ground. After yesterday’s spring-like warmth, cooler temperatures had prevailed overnight.

After class I went by Swan Lake (still probably at least 95% frozen) and saw a few Ring-necked Ducks working the edge along Lake Street where the ice has melted back a bit from the shore.

Most of the rest of the day was spent on various work-related phone calls, though I did step outside briefly around midday (while on a call) to enjoy the sun that was shining for a bit.

There was quite a bit of bird activity, both at the feeders, and taking baths in the little puddles on top of the container van in the neighbor’s yard.

I heard a flicker calling several times (while I was inside) from somewhere nearby.
