Castle Hill Rose

This morning I stopped by Castle Hill (it’s getting to be the time of year when unexpected or unusual birds might show up, and after past years I’ve decided Castle Hill is a good place to keep an eye on).

I didn’t find any birds of note, but did take pictures of a rose growing just off the trail near the top. I think quite a few ornamental shrubs were added when the current trail was put in (maybe 20 years ago?) – so perhaps the rose was planted then. A more intriguing (though I think unlikely) possibility is that it’s a rose that came from earlier plantings – perhaps back to the Russian era.
