Fall Dunlin

Yet another sunny and cool day extended the pattern of dry weather that has dominated recently.

I wanted to spend some time looking for the finch, but it was after lunch before I really had time to do that (recording a conversation for a future radio show first thing this morning, followed by calls for work until lunch).

I had just stepped out to go look for the finch this aftenroon when Simon pulled up to tell me about shorebirds he had seen at the turnaround. The four Dunlin were unusual for Sitka in the fall (they’re common in the spring), so I decided to go check them out before wandering around the neighborhood.

Upon my return, I spent a little time walking the neighborhood, mostly along Park Street and Etolin Street, but had no luck finding the finch.

I might have tried for the green flash this afternoon (it’s the first day the horizon has been clear during this current stretch of mostly sunny weather), but Connor had a dentist appointment, so I settled for watching the alpenglow fade on the Sisters (the dentist office had a nice view).
