A clear, calm day with warm (for a sunny winter day) temperatures into the 40s prompted Kitty and I to get out on a boat ride including going through Port Krestof to Krestof Sound and then into Nakwasina. We also made a stop in Katlian Bay, so I could check out some rock outcrops I noticed last summer while hiking on Starrigavan ridge. It wasn’t a great shoreline for tying up, so dropped me off and waited in the boat while I made a very quick survey. I would like to get back in the summer to see if there are different plants. [I wrote a couple of follow up posts from this stop: Katlian Outcrops and Empty Limpet Shells Mystery]
In Port Krestof I made a recording of some shorebirds, including one of a dozen Black Oystercatchers and a flock of Black Turnstones (with a Dunlin and 8 Rock Sandpipers mixed in, though I’m not sure if their voices can be picked out).
