We had only been in Sitka a few days when Nuttings invited us to go on a trip to Sea Lion Cove. It had been a couple of years since my last visit. We were at the boat before 8am getting ready for the 2+ hour run from Sealing Cove to Kalinin Bay. From there it would be a two mile hike over to Sea Lion Cove.
It was Connor’s first (non large ferry) boat ride, and he seemed happy to be there even with the bulky life jacket.
The trail is rough, so I was surprised my mom wanted to go. I later learned that she had conflated Sea Lion Cove’s two mile rough trail hike with Shelikof’s 7 mile road walk, and thought it was a two mile hike along a road. Even with the rough trail, she did well.
My dad opted to carry Connor rather than my backpack and the diaper bag. It was probably the smart choice, as it was an awkward carry for me.
We had some time to explore the beach a bit, and I got pictures of various wildflowers and other things that caught my eye.
Connor seemed to enjoy his time on the sandy beach.
It was pushing 9pm by the time we got back. A long but enjoyable day.
