Agrocybe praecox is apparently a complex of species. It's not clear which one this would be.

Ceratodon purpureus

The inflorescence on this Small-flowered Woodrush (Luzula parviflora) have not yet opened.

Niphotrichum canescens grows on some of the rocks adjacent to the SJ Museum parking lot.

Clear Moss (Hookeria lucens) with sporophytes.

The teeth on this Clear Moss (Hookeria lucens) capsule are clearly visible and closed.

I was interested to see the teeth on this Clear Moss (Hookeria lucens) capsule opened only a few second after being closed.

Lophozia incisa growing on well rotted wood.

Some of the Trailing Currant (Ribes laxiflorum) buds have started to open.

Riccardia palmata, growing on a well rotted wood.

2 March Photos: Nature Walk to Totem Park

Driftwood Rim-lichen (Lecanora xylophila) is abundant on several of the drift logs along the beach at Totem Park.

Although the driftlog habitat is other than described for the species, this appears to be a Riccardia sp.

Marks on the ruler are millimeters.

20 February Photos: Little Things

Much of the snow from earlier in the month is gone now, so I decided to look for some small things to do some macro photography. I found a little black cup fungi, and a small bryophyte. All of these photos were taken with the Canon 65mm 1-5x macro lens and available light.

Black Reflecting Cup (Plectania sp?) growing on rotting wood. I've observed here in past years also.

I think this is Aulacomnium androgynum based on the gemmae structure, size and habitat.

I think this is Aulacomnium androgynum, mostly due to gemmae structures I saw that are not visible in this photo.
