Airport Lichens

The weather was fitting for the first day of spring, or the vernal equinox, at least (maybe first day of spring is technically tomorrow). Winds were calm (and what breeze there was didn’t feel unpleasantly cold). Temperatures got up to around 50F.

I continue to be pretty busy with calls for work, and that took up a good portion of today.

I was able to get out for a walk with Kitty early this afternoon. We ended up poking around on the rocky point that sticks out into the lagoon by the airport.

I was a little surprised to see a couple of different Umbilicaria-like lichens. They looked different enough that I suspect they were different species.

This afternoon I refreshed the soil in a prayer plant that I’ve had for a few years. It has not been looking happy for some months. I tried dividing it, but time will tell if that was successful (hopefully I didn’t end up killing it outright).

There was evidence of bird migration on the radar this evening – I haven’t been checking, but suspect this isn’t the first time this year.

Someone in Wrangell posted a first moth of the year this week, so I put up my uv lights and turned on the porch light. I’m not expecting much for now, but I’ll start checking.
