The October 28th show featured a conversation with Esther Kennedy, who has been working for Southeast Alaska Tribal Ocean Research on monitoring harmful algae in shellfish. We talked about her work there as well as some of her adventures exploring the mountains of Baranof Island.
Sites I regularly check (daily or weekly) to help keep in touch with what’s going on in the environment around Sitka:
Zoom.earth Daily Satellite
NOAA Tides (including observed levels)
Climate Information (including observed and normal year and month-to-date precipitations)
GOES-17 Weather Satellite view of North Pacific
Sitka Tribe of Alaska Burke-o-Lator data (need to manually find on the map and select to see data)
If you have questions or observations you want to share, please feel free to leave a comment here or on the page I’ve set up for that purpose.
