There was a big avalanche that I heard from No Thorofare Bay. My guess is that it was the one seen here on the ridge between Verstovia and Arrowhead Peak.
It seemed to me like this was a pretty big avalanche.
It's hard to say for sure, but I think the snow depth where it cut loose was probably at least 10 feet deep.

Aulacomnium androgynum is not uncommon on drift logs.

This seemed quite late for herring to be spawning. Their spawning activity results in the milky colored water.
If this had been the first spawn of the year, there would have been far more gulls.
Since herring had been spawning abudantly elsewhere for at least a couple of weeks, there was less interest in this school.
Connor was helping some of the herring that got caught on the falling tide.

Jen Cedarleaf provided these photos of a Leucistic Fox Sparrow she’s been seeing this week on Alice Island.

Despite the unusual coloring, I’m pretty confident it’s a Fox Sparrow due to the shape of the head, the lack of any suggestion of stripes on the face, and chevrons rather than stripes on the chest. Jen said it behaved more like a Fox Sparrow than a Song Sparrow (the other most likely alternative) as well.
