26 January Photos: Anna’s Hummingbird

Someone I know has had an Anna’s Hummingbird visiting his house since at least November (his wife has been maintaining a feeder since it showed up very late in the fall). I was able to stop by this morning and get a few pictures of it.

22 January Photos: Swan Lake Birds

Glaucous-winged Gull (Larus glaucescens) observed at Swan Lake.

First year Glaucous Gull (Larus hyperboreus)

Partially pale feathered Northwestern Crow (Corvus caurinus) observed with other crows at Swan Lake.

I'm not positive that this is a Thayer's Gull (Larus thayeri).

I think this may be a Thayer's Gull (Larus thayeri) but it might be a Glaucous-winged x Herring Gull hybrid, as it seems to have a bit of that look to it.

21 January Photos: Morning Outing and Moon Rise

This morning I walked around the trails at Starrigavan Recreation Area. This evening Melissa told me the nearly full moon was rising behind the Sisters and I should go out and take a look.

This Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola) had to do a little work to fight through the layer of ice.

I happened to notice this Bald Eagle perched in a tree as the moon was rising, and was lucky enough to be able to find a place where I could get them together.
