Sparse visitant offshore in spring and summer, but rarely wanders to inshore waters (Willett 1914 and Kessel and Gibson 1978). Merrill collected one near Sitka 17 May 1908 (UW). Sanger (1972) listed it as rare offshore 1 February to 8 March 1967.
