Common in winter; sparse in other seasons. The only breeding record is by Nelson and Lehnhausen (1983 and Gibson 1982), one nest on Hazy Islands 25 July 1982. Sightings of juveniles 21 Jun 1981 at Vitzkari Rock and in Cross Sound 10 June 1981 by Sowls (1982) are also suggestive of breeding.
