Summary: Apparently Rare or Very Rare, as there are few recent reports. This species may be underreported due to similarity to Trumpeter Swans and an assumption that migrating flocks in flight are Trumpeter Swans (which are known to winter in the area).

Scarce, formerly common, migrant. Definite dates of observation are “April,” 18 April 1940 (specimen I examined in hand), and 28 September 1913 (Willett 1914) to 11 November 1931 (my observation). It was recorded on two of the 28 Christmas counts.
