Scarce migrant and winter visitant. Extreme dates 9 November 1997 by Ward and Tedin (Tobish 1998) to “spring” 1977 by Donald McKnight (Gibson 1977). One or two birds remained throughout the winter in 1996-7,1998-9, and 2001-2 as observed by Ward and Tedin (Tobish 1997,1999,2002). Recorded on 9 of the 28 Christmas counts.
