Southeastern Alaska Distribution: Not previously reported [not reported from Sitka area in this document]. Probably throughout in suitable habitats.
Habitat: In southeastern Alaska on rotting wood, forest floors and among heathers in the subalpine. Elsewhere reported from a variety of habitats including organic substrates in humid, shaded sites; also on thin layers of soil or humus on steep slopes or in ravines, and on damp rocks and ledges; occasionally among Sphagnum.
Comments: In southeastern Alaska not seen with sporophytes. Confused with and not always distinguishable from C. trichomanis, especially in herbarium material. The geography of this species is unclear, both locally and in total range.
